After a quiet December, the AuctionsPlus online offer board had a huge start to the new year, with a total of 3,620 bales sold for the month of January. This rise of 375% from the month prior can be largely attributed to the confidence that resulted in a steady rise in prices throughout January as buyers and brokers alike returned after the holiday season and physical centers reopened.
As usual, a broad range of microns dominated the offer board from a low of 14µ micron to a high of 30.8µ micron. The week starting Monday 10th January recorded the most volume traded on the platform with just shy of 1,200 bales sold for that week. Overall, the top price for the month was a Nutrien NSW lot that sold for 3,255c/kg greasy. This CRESSBROOK branded AAASUP was 14µ micron and had 1% vegetable matter.
Looking forward it will be interesting to see how the market goes over the coming weeks – whether it will keep the high prices being seen at the moment or start to ease back a bit, only time will tell. There are currently a number of Merino stud sales on AuctionsPlus and it will be interesting to see if these high wool prices translate to higher prices and more interest showing in these sales.
