Gary Dick Award (cattle) - AuctionsPlus Awards 2024

Sam Bartlett from Adcock Partners Property and Livestock, Quilpie, Queensland, has been awarded the Gary Dick Award for Cattle.

Mr Bartlett is an AuctionsPlus-accredited assessor who has achieved the highest clearance rate for cattle on the AuctionsPlus platform during the 2024 financial year.

Mr Bartlett has demonstrated a high level of engagement with the platform and continually exemplifies his professionalism in his assessment quality and upholds the AuctionsPlus User Agreement.

Mr Bartlett is a consistent user of the platform, achieving the fifth highest turnover as an agent for cattle, with the best clearance rate (93.6% in head, 93.3% in lots) of the top-five contenders by 16%.

He is well regarded in this industry for his work ethic and his market knowledge. Mr Bartlett does an excellent job in promoting his lots, using features within the AuctionsPlus platform across advertisement and featured lots to ensure the best results across his sales.

His optimism and dedication to the industry is reflected the best piece of advice he has received.

"The cow will have another calf next year. If you miss out on a mob this time, there will be another mob to chase next time," Mr Bartlett said.

AuctionsPlus Awards 2024 (8)

To me winning this award is a great way of recognising the high clearance rates that we have with our clients and with the stock we sell. I am very grateful of winning the inaugural Gary Dick award.
Communication and honesty. If you don't communicate well and be honest with a vendor or buyers, you loose the respect in what you do. Australia is a big country but bad news travels fast.
Picking one highlight is very difficult, but helping each vendor achieve their best results with their livestock in the current up and down market seen in 2024 has been it.
A key bit of advice l like to share with clients is be proactive in the market as seasons change from good to bad.
It's hard to pick one trend or issue, but one definitely at the front of mind is the live export ban on sheep in WA. Not knowing what the government may change next will cause a ripple effect throughout the red meat industry.
The cow will have another calf next year. In other words that if you miss out on a mob this time, there will be another mob to chase next time.

I think AuctionsPlus is a great tool to sell livestock on as it provides a wide audience to one auction, connecting people across Australia.

A big advantage, which a lot of people like, is that it's on farm. This is helpful in an industry with so many costs associated with it.

Through the AuctionsPlus Awards, we celebrate our community of assessors, agents, vendors, buyers and other valued industry members who play an integral role in driving the nation's largest agricultural marketplace forward.
