This week's stud sale spotlight for the week ending Friday, September 6 has turned up another dial across the 2024 spring stud selling season. It was the Angus offerings who pushed the needle this week with 17 out of the 30 sales interfaced through AuctionsPlus offering Angus seedstock.
Across the 17 Angus stud sales, seven achieved a clearance over 90%. However, it was ‘3RD Annual Grassdale Angus Spring Sale’, ‘Hicks Beef Spring Bull Sale’, ‘Hazeldean Angus Spring Bull Sale 2024’, ‘Banquet Angus Spring Bull Sale’ and the ‘Millah Murrah 2024 Angus Bull Sale’ who achieved full clearance.
It was another successful day out at the ‘Millah Murrah 2024 Angus Bull Sale’ where the Thompson family achieved stunning sale averages across a line of highly-sort after genetics.
Based out of Bathurst, NSW, the stud sold all 123 bulls to a top of $140,000, attaining an average of $27,227.
In the breakdown, 33 yearling bulls sold to $140,000, averaging $32,727. The 18-month-old offerings sold to $70,000 to average $25,453, and 15 two-year-olds sold to $70,000, averaging $24,000.
The top-priced bull was the yearling, MILLAH MURRAH RAMJET U356 purchased for $140,000 by return buyers Shepwok Angus, Gibson, WA.
The stud’s catalogue said the young bull “does everything right” and had a “beautiful phenotype and skeletal structure” and his genes carried fantastic maternal heritage.
Pointing to his ability to produce fast growing calves, Ramjet’s Estimated Breeding Values rank him as +3.3 for birth weight but a whopping +122 for 600-day growth.
The sale attracted people from across the nation with bulls being sold to five states. However, it was the online activity driven by keen bidders through the AuctionsPlus platform who drew an electric presence to the buying field.
AuctionsPlus’ Business Development Manager Hugh Courts attended the sale, placing bids on behalf of the platform’s online bidders.
“Millah Murrah was a tremendous sale to attend for the first time. The outstanding line up of bulls was highlighted by how even they were as well as the sound structural phenotype," Mr Courts said.
“Online buyers could bid with confidence knowing the work that has gone in to breeding these spectacular bulls."
In safe hands with Mr Courts and seasoned Market Operator’s Millie George and Abby Naumann back at AuctionsPlus Headquarters in Sydney, bidders on the platform secured nine of the hotly-contested bulls with a total of 181 bids being placed online across 73 lots.
MILLAH MURRAH RAMJET U356 has joined the leaderboard of the top-priced lot interfaced through AuctionsPlus this spring stud selling season. Dunoon Angus’ ‘Bob’ will continue its reign in top position following its purchase for $225,000 last week.
