AuctionsPlus Market Operator Team Leader Toby Pitts has lived and worked across the globe but has now made Wagga Wagga, NSW, his home.

The regional NSW city is also home to a new regional office for AuctionsPlus.

Mr Pitts sees the regional office as a “foot in the door” for the Riverina and northern Victoria, allowing greater connectivity and visibility for AuctionsPlus staff between agents, vendors as well as allowing a more feasible opportunity to attend local sales.

We've got a lot of agents locally who know where we're at, and it's easy for us to go and travel out to sales that happen around the Riverina and into northern Victoria," he said.

“I think having that impact and a foot in the door in regional Australia is great."

The Wagga Wagga location has also been pivotal in attracting young talent, especially through Charles Sturt University (CSU).

“We’re able to lean on CSU grads and current students in casual roles, and it’s created a thriving atmosphere here,” Mr Pitts said.

He enjoys working with the young team, with the roles a gateway to other exciting and important roles in the agriculture industry.

It’s an industry Mr Pitts has always been involved with – in many forms such as polo grooming and contract fencing before starting at AuctionsPlus.

Born in New Forest, England, before spending his youth in New Zealand, Mr Pitts made the move across the ditch to Australia when he was 24, where he has resided for the past 10 years.

“I've grown up around agriculture and have been adjacent to the industry all my life. From England to New Zealand, and finally to Australia, I've always been close to agriculture and close to farming,” Mr Pitts said.

“All my family and friends are involved in agriculture."

Mr Pitts also highlighted the value of the people he works alongside and interacts with throughout his role.

“The best part is the people, both internally and externally,” Mr Pitts said.

“All my colleagues have just been fantastic people to work with throughout the years, also the variety of people I get to chat to and work with, from agents to vendors every day.

“It's just a nice way to get yourself really immersed in the industry,” he added.
