The 36th ALPA Queensland Young Auctioneers Competition returned to the Brisbane Ekka Main Arena on Wednesday, bringing the energy of a live cattle sale - and 10 young, keen auctioneers already making their mark in the industry - to the heart of the show.

Their skill, rhythm and presence under pressure were tested with Sam Moy from Nutrien Ag Solutions, Rockhampton, named the winner, and Charles Gleeson, Watkins & Company Queensland, Roma, the runner up.

The 2025 ALPA Queensland Young Auctioneers Competition finalists were:
•    Tom Cameron, Elders Rural Services, Winton
•    Jack Dougherty, Elders Rural Services, Dalby
•    Daniel Ford, Brian Dawson Auctions, Rockhampton
•    Charles Gleeson, Watkins & Company Qld, Roma
•    Jack Hannah, GDL, Miles
•    Grady Hansen, TopX Gracemere, Gracemere
•    Sam Moy, Nutrien Ag Solutions, Rockhampton
•    Lachlan Spry, RBV Rural, Emerald
•    Billy Swain, TopX Roma, Roma
•    Beau White, Elders Rural Services, Clermont

For the 10 young professionals selected from across the state, the competition was the culmination of hard work, training, and a shared dream — to sell on Queensland’s biggest stage.

The competition was judged by a panel of three industry leaders with exceptional experience in auctioneering and livestock marketing, each finalist was scored across ALPA’s rigorous criteria: diction, voice, values, manner, presence, and overall presentation.

Mr Moy, who is also an AuctionsPlus assessor, received the Queensland Country Life Shield, the Don Steele AM Cup, $500 in prize money, and a place in the 2026 ALPA National Young Auctioneers Competition at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. He will be joined in Sydney by Mr Gleeson.

ALPA CEO Peter Baldwin said the competition once again proved that the future of the industry is in good hands.

“These young people are the future of our industry. The standard on show at this year’s Ekka was exceptional. Every competitor brought their best and showed exactly why auctioneering is both a noble profession and an essential mechanism for achieving fair, competitive prices in the marketplace.”
