Ascot Charolais tops at $60,000

With the Spring stud selling season well-underway, this week's stud sale spotlight for the week ending Friday, September 20 saw AuctionsPlus interface 28 stud sales across the country, as well as the first international stud sale for the spring season.

Similarly to last week, Angus offerings continue to dominate the stud sale listings with 50% of auctions this week showcasing Angus genetics. 

The week concluded on a high note with the ‘Ascot Angus & Charolais Bull & Heifer Sale’, achieving 98% clearance, whilst a Charolais Bull topped the sale at $60,000.

Held on property at ‘North Toolburra’, Warwick, Queensland, where the onsite action was eager. However, AuctionsPlus who provided the online interface received a mammoth 466 online bids throughout the sale, with 772 registered logins.

In the breakdown across the 73 Angus Bulls offered, the Angus sire line topped at $40,000, and achieved an average price of $17,329.

The Charolais’ were the standout of the day, topping the sale at $60,000 with ASCOT THE MAN T207E (lot 81).

Described as “a very impressive, powerful bull. One of the best bulls we have bred,” the young sire’s EBV data matches him with Top 5% all growth categories and a carcase weight with above average EMA, fats and beef yield.

The 63 Charolais Bulls offered sold to an average of $16,892.

The Angus Heifers topped at $30,000 with the 31 head offered achieving an average of $9,935.

The Charolais Heifers topped at $8,000, with the 28 offered attracting an average of $4,821.

Heading to Roma QLD, where the 'Pathfinder Angus Annual Roma Bull Sale' achieved 98% clearance with 104 out of 105 bulls selling to an average of $8,913. The sale topped at $18,000 with the purchase of PATHFINDER NEW GROUND U247 (lot 65). However, the online activity was strongly felt with 11 successful bidders securing 15 lots. The top price purchased online was $18,000 with PATHFINDER GOALKEEPER U752 (lot 6).

Travelling south to Yea in Victoria, the '2024 LAWSONS ANGUS SPRING SALE' achieved strong achieving 93% clearance and an overall average of $9,245. The sale topped at $20,000 with the purchase of (lot 88) onsite. Online buyers secured 25% of the offerings with 13 successful online bidders taking home 24 lots. The top price online was $11,000 which was reached four times across the sale on behalf of online bidders.

‘The Grove's 41st Annual On-Property Bull Sale’ (LIVE SALE) achieved full clearance across the sale offerings, amounting to an average of $15,410.

The sale topped at $45,000 twice with the purchase of THE GROVE T0466 3/16 ANGUS (lot 9) and lot 32. AuctionsPlus placed bids on almost 25% of all lots offered. However, online buyers secured two lots, with the top priced purchased over the platform knocked down for $10,000.

The success of the The Grove’s 41^st on-property sale comes off the back of their near-record breaking purchase of Weebollabolla Shorthorn’s ‘Weebollabolla Tinkler’ for $105,000 last Friday. The purchase was just $1,000 shy of matching the record price for the Shorthorn breed in Australia.

The ‘Paringa Premier Yearling Bull Sale’ achieved a top price of $41,000 PARINGA URANIUM U76 (Lot 33), with 93% clearance across the sale and averaged $8,605. Online buyers purchasing via the AuctionsPlus platform held a firm grasp over a large contingent of the offerings, with seven successful buyers purchasing 14 lots.

The ‘Santa Central 2024 Sale’ proved another strong auction for Santa Gertrudis offerings this spring season. The auction achieved an average of $12,604 and topped at $60,000 with the purchase of DIAMOND H APOLLO A066 (Lot 8), offered by the Diamond H Santa Gertrudis stud.

Online action was firing throughout the sale with eight lots secured to three online bidders via AuctionsPlus. The top price purchased online was (lot 7) purchased for $27,500. The auction had a strong clearance of 76%.

The ‘Brisbane Valley Santa Gertrudis Sale’ attracted fierce online presence securing 12 out of the 64 lots sold. The sale achieved an average of $8,000 with 91% clearance.

The sale topped at $20,000 with the purchase of Welbatch Pastoral’s WELBATCH YES SIR (Lot 28) who sold to an online buyer. In it’s description, the two-year old sire was considered “an exceptional son of Dangarfield Bernborough that demonstrates excellent carcass traits in a dark red body.”

The ‘Rissington Cattle Company Yearling Bull Sale’ saw AuctionsPlus stud sales go international for the first time this spring season. The Rissington Cattle Company based out of Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, were able to connect to buyers across both the North and South Islands.

The Rissington Cattle Co breed both Angus and The Profit Maker® genetics. The Profit Maker® breed is a multi-breed composite developed by Leachman Cattle Company, and with four breeds, retains 75% of the F1 hybrid vigour.

The sale achieved 100% clearance and averaged $8,581 across the 37 head sold. The sale attracted 23 active online bidders who secured the offerings. The sale topped at $12,500 with the purchase of PROFIT MAKER® - 230051 (lot 22), sold to an online to a buyer in the Hawke’s Bay region. The sale topper bull is described as “built like a brick and with an exceptional dataset.”

The ‘Greenup Eidsvold Santa Gertrudis Bull Sale’ received strong results across an impressive line of Santa Gertrudis genetics, offered by vendors Rick and Alice Greenup. The stud has over 70 years of history breeding Santa’s, volume buyers dominated the onsite bidding action. However, online the online presence was firmly felt, contributing to the sale's high clearance of 95%. The overall sale averaged $9,885 across the 113 head sold, with four lots secured to online buyers.

The sale offerings consisted a line of classified S bulls backed by a solid panel of performance data averaging $10,271 across 96 lots from the 99.

Seventeen commercial bulls sold from 21 offered to an average of $7706 and a top of $16,000.

However, it was the sale topping bull GREENUP NOBLE U22 (lot 14), who would steal the spotlight. The bull was purchased for $32,000 on behalf of repeat buyers John and Cate McLoughlin. In its description Noble was described as “eye-catching, robust bull with volume across the board. This long, deep bull is easy-doing while exhibiting great muscularity and a wide top-line, with his EMA EBV ranked in top 5%.”

Founded in 1857, ‘Eidsvold Station’ is one of Australia's most historically significant cattle stations, with its renowned Santa Gertrudis herd tracing back to 1954.
