Strong bidding activity and solid demand had top-quality rams head to buyers across Australia over the past week's AuctionsPlus stud sheep auctions. Below are some of the standout results from across the country.
The Deepdale Dorper and White Dorper Ram Sale achieved the top-priced ram interfaced through AuctionsPlus over the past week. Held on property at Merrinee, Victoria, the sale achieved full clearance and a top price of $7,600.
In the sale breakdown, all 94 Dorper and White Dorper rams sold for an average price of $3,294. Online bidding was strong throughout the sale, with AuctionsPlus securing more than a quarter of the offerings. Seven successful online bidders took home 25 lots.
Gary and Janice Fiegert of Melashdan Dorpers, Tumby Bay, South Australia, secured the top-priced ram, Deepdale 230365. The type-five Dorper, 18 months old, was sired by Beretta Burrawang Dorper 210293 and out of Burrawang 181956. Embryo-transfer bred, the ram weighed 96.5kg, with a 46mm eye muscle depth and 5.5mm fat.
Meanwhile, the Yasloc Poll Dorset & White Suffolk 43rd Annual Ram Sale was held on-property at Glen Innes. Despite unfavourable weather conditions, buyer enthusiasm remained high in the sale barn. Of the 149 Poll Dorset rams offered, 118 sold, averaging $1,084.
The breakdown included 93 of 110 two-tooth Poll Dorset rams, which averaged $1,093 and topped at $2,400, while 25 of 39 ram lambs averaged $1,050, with a top price of $2,200.
