INDICATORS: EYCI lifts and Heavy Lamb Indicator blows past 900c/kg

The National Young Cattle Indicator (NYCI) has held steady this week, falling just 0.54c to 363.31c/kg liveweight on Friday morning. It has fallen 26.63c on the previous month and is up 24.81c on the same time last year.

The NYCI is a seven-day rolling average of young cattle sold across all NLRS-reported saleyards and Australia’s suite of online livestock marketplaces.

NSW Online sales again accounted for the largest portion of the calculation at 29%, averaging 376.09c/kg Liveweight. Listings on AuctionsPlus have normalised after record offerings in recent weeks, with more than 14,000 head of commercial cattle on offer in today’s Eastern States and Weaner and Yearling sales.

Meanwhile in the NYCI, Yearling steers were the largest category included, with a head count of 8,884, averaging 380.95c/kg, a 7.74c/kg price reduction from last week.

The Eastern States Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI), a seven-day rolling average of young cattle from 23 saleyards across Queensland, NSW and Victoria, was sitting at 685.39 cents per kilogram dressed on Friday morning, up 12.30 for the week, back 14.40 from a month ago and up 62.53 on last year.

In the sheep market, the Restocker Lamb Indicator was sitting at 788.38 cents per kilogram dressed on Friday morning, up 45.54c week on week. The Heavy Lamb Indicator lifted to 902.20 cents per kilogram dressed, an increase of 47.33 for the week and up 231.93c compared to the same time last year.

The Merino Lamb Indicator fell this week by 13.37c to 709.42 cents per kilogram, meanwhile the Mutton Indicator jumped to 570.14 cents per kilogram dressed, an increase of 57.30c/kg week on week.
