First Forward+ deal highlights industry shift toward smarter selling

AuctionsPlus has recently launched Forward+, a new forward-selling model designed to make trading prime livestock simpler and smarter for producers, agents, and processors across Australia.

Developed in close collaboration with the nation’s processing network, Forward+ allows prime sheep and lambs - ready for future delivery - to be listed directly on a dedicated offerboard.

Processors can then submit offers in a confidential, controlled environment, helping to deliver supply certainty, better price discovery, and improved planning across the supply chain.

Elders Bendigo Livestock Manager, Nigel Starick, made AuctionsPlus history by securing the first Forward+ sale with a processor.

“It was very simple and easy to use. From putting them on to accepting and delivering was seamless … I’ll definitely use it again,” Mr Starick said.

“Hopefully the industry takes it up as another opportunity, that’s the best part about it.”

Since that first trade, Forward+ has continued to gather momentum, with multiple listings and more successful sales completed.

These early results demonstrate the platform’s place in the livestock marketplace as a valuable tool for securing forward supply and providing greater certainty in a competitive environment.

AuctionsPlus Chief Executive Officer, Wyn Snyman, said the launch marked a milestone not just for the company but for the broader industry.

“This is a turning point for how prime livestock is traded digitally. Forward+ connects agents, producers, and processors in a way that reduces risk, simplifies the process, and delivers real value across the supply chain,” Mr Snyman said.

“In a tight supply environment, securing future livestock deliveries is critical. Forward+ gives processors the ability to act early and plan ahead, while vendors benefit from confidence and clearer pricing signals.”

Forward+ was developed following extensive consultation with processors, initially involving seven before expanding to 21, including Fletchers, Hardwicks, Greenstock (Woolworths), Midfield, TFI, Gundagai, Woodward Foods, and JBS.

With strong early adoption and multiple successful trades already completed, Forward+ has quickly cemented its place in the livestock marketplace.

Its strong start shows Forward+ is a valuable tool for the Australian livestock industry, helping producers sell smarter, buy better, and build stronger connections.
