Oak Hill Universal U009 dominates competition at 60th Herefords Australia National Show & Sale

Cootamundra-based Oak Hill Herefords dominated the competition at the 2025 StockCo by Heartland Bank Herefords Australia National Show and Sale in Wodonga, with their standout bull Oak Hill Universal U009 taking out both Junior and Grand Champion Bull titles.

Now in its 60th year, the prestigious national event drew strong competition across all bull categories, with champions named across junior, intermediate, and senior divisions.

Bull Class Results:

  • Junior Champion: Oak Hill Universal U009
    Reserve: Talumbi Unhinged

  • Intermediate Champion: Mawarra Magnificent U250
    Reserve: Granite Hill Redford U010

  • Senior Champion: Talumbi Undisputed
    Reserve: Mawarra Masterpiece U230

  • Grand Champion Bull: Oak Hill Universal U009

In a further nod to their consistent showing, Mawarra Genetics was awarded Most Successful Exhibitor of the event.

The annual sale, which is run by Elders and Nutrien, and interfaced with AuctionsPlus, attracted solid commercial interest in tough seasonal conditions, with 80 of 108 bulls sold under the hammer to average $9,500.

The top-priced bull offered was Glendan Park Uproar U212, from the Glendan Park Hereford stud in Kyneton, Victoria. It was purchased by Steve and Kate Reid of Talbalba Herefords, Millmerran, Queensland, for $44,000.

The second top-priced bull of the sale—and the top-priced junior bull—was Kymarney Quambone U120, exhibited by Scott Lewington of Uranquinty. It sold for $36,000 to Guy and Suzanne Lord, Branga Plains Pastoral, Walcha.

The event’s 60th Anniversary cocktail function was a resounding success, providing an opportunity for attendees to celebrate the breed and its community.

Also held during the week was the Herefords Australia Youth Auction at the dinner. The auction, also interfaced with AuctionsPlus, raised $12,000 with all funds directed towards Herefords Australia youth initiatives. Half of the proceeds will support the Australian team travelling to the World Hereford Conference at Kansas State University to compete in the Young Breeders Competition.

Preceding the judging and auction action, the Herefords Australia Breed Forum on Tuesday brought together around 80 attendees for a day of learning, networking, and discussion on the future of the breed. From genetics and market trends to industry challenges and opportunities, the forum helped set a constructive tone for the week.
