Sheep, cattle, machinery … and Macca’s memorabilia

Beyond livestock and machinery, AuctionsPlus has seen its share of delightfully unique and obscure items cross the virtual auction space. Among these memorable sales, one event has stood out in the minds of AuctionsPlus staff over the years—the Abernethy Clearing Sale held in Laharum, Victoria, in 2022.

The Abernethy Clearing Sale was ran as a sequential style auction which offered an eclectic mix of vintage items that sparked the interest of collectors and enthusiasts alike.

From nostalgic memorabilia to rare vehicles, the sale showcased the true diversity of AuctionsPlus’ offerings.

Among the standout items were vintage McDonald’s signs that brought a wave of nostalgia and a touch of whimsy.

One of these signs, measuring 86 x 86 cm, fetched $800, while another, slightly larger at 91 x 86 cm, sold for $850. The most imposing of the collection, a 107 x 183 cm sign, fetched $900.

The charm didn’t stop at signs. For those seeking something even more exclusive, the ‘MacJunior Prototype Statue’ caught bidders’ attention and sold for $1,300, proving that the appetite for rare memorabilia remains strong.

Described as a meticulously preserved piece of automotive history, the Monaro sold for an impressive $127,000, drawing significant attention from classic car aficionados.
