Bec McKenzie reckons tight wheel nuts, roadside angst and stubbornly flat tyres are thing of the past with a whiz-bang kit that will have your tyres off and on in no time at all. My husband Peter and I have owned tyre businesses in both Lightning Ridge and Walgett over the past 15 years. Six years ago, we made the decision to focus solely on our Walgett business and we closed our Lightning Ridge shop. Then the drought-hit. With four children to educate we knew we had to think outside the square.
In 2005 we had taken a trip to China to visit one of the largest trade fairs in the country, looking for something we could sell that might boost the coffers and help keep our doors open. Lo and behold, after looking at a dizzying number of products, we came across an 3-in-1 electric tyre changing kit. Straight away we knew that this is something every Aussie would benefit from.
When we got home, we got to work and ordered our first lot of Ezijaks.
We started selling them locally and were only moving about 50 every three months. Initially, sales were fairly bleak and although I was doing everything from marketing courses to educating myself about social media nothing really seemed to hit the mark.
It wasn’t until 2019 that we took a gamble on having a tv ad produced and booked our advertising spots with Imparja and 7 Central. I can still so clearly recall that Sunday night where my husband and four kids were sitting at a Sydney pub after watching our daughter play for the Waratahs. The ad was scheduled during the 6 o’clock news, next minute my phone lit up and made a cha-ching sound – I had sold an Ezijak! Now when my phone makes that noise everyone in my family yells out “cha-ching”.
Since then, sales have gone through the roof and our little side-hustle has become a full-time job. It is very much a family affair, and the kids get involved helping us to pack and post the Ezijak out and also assisting with my social media.
As a female living and working in the country, I know the distress a flat tyre can cause. Particularly for mums travelling alone with small children. It’s no fun waiting hours for roadside assistance - that’s if you are lucky enough to be in mobile range!.
And it’s not just women in this position, it's families, and professionals as well.
Many jacks are in fact too small or not strong enough to lift a multitude of vehicles. And some are only operable for someone of significant strength. This jack can be used by anyone.
The other impossible part is undoing the wheel nuts. They are always too tight to undo, so the Ezijak also includes a rattle gun to loosen and tighten them.
Ezijak is an electric jack, it’s easy to use and can be used on all vehicles, including 4WDs, SUVs, caravans, trailers, horse floats and Goosenecks. We love it and like to think that it has helped many families get out of a tight spot and back on the road with as little fuss as possible.
