A local landholder has purchased the 2400 hectare ‘East Glen East’ in Billa Billa north of Goondiwindi.
A local farm operation will expand its production after buying ‘East Glen East’ before auction for an undisclosed price.
Offered by Ron and Dianne Baldwin, the property boasts approximately 5000 acres of wheat crops. Approximately 2060ha had been sown to wheat this season.
Goondiwindi-based First National Real Estate Sloss & Co agent George Sloss said there was a lot of interest in the property and he wasn’t surprised at having to cancel the auction after it sold prior.
“The Baldwin family purchased the back of ‘Glen East’ from the Raymond family back in 2002. The Raymond family still own and live on ‘Gleneast’, which is why there’s no infrastructure on ‘East Glen East’. So it was ideally suited to neighbours or near neighbours as add-on country,” he said.
Mr Sloss said at the request of the buyer, details of the contract were not being disclosed. All growing crops were excluded from the sale. He said there is still “plenty of interest in the market” especially for high quality country.
“The Billa Billa area is the heart of our better arable country in the Goondiwindi district. It's a traditional prime hard wheat country. Wheat is still the dominant crop being rotated with chickpeas and sorghum.”
