Mount Doreen Station has been held by the same family for 90 years and is one of the largest certified organic cattle stations in Central Australia.
Mount Doreen Station stretches over 730 thousand hectares and is basically the size of a small European country. It occupies a significant stretch of the Tanami Road and lies approximately 400 kilometers northwest of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory.
Mount Doreen Station has been in the hands of the Braitling family since its establishment in 1932. Its new owners are Australia’s largest private landholders, the Oldfield and Costello families. The selling agents declined to speak about the sale, but an article published by the ABC said “documents from the NT Land Titles Office show the property sold for $34.7 million, but it is unclear if that price includes the 18,000 head of cattle that came with the transaction”.
Another data agency said if the 18,000 cattle were valued at around $2,000 per head then that would have added a further $36 million to the price tag, pushing it above $70 million.
The Oldfield and Costello families now own almost 10 million hectares of land in the Northern Territory, Western Australia and South Australia.
Earlier this year the livestock producers took top billing as Australia's largest private landholder from Gina Rinehart after purchasing two stations from her portfolio.
